How old does my child need to be to start Pre-K?
Children need to be 3 years old by September 1st . They must be fully potty trained and be able to change their own clothes without any assistance in the event they have an accident.
Are you part of Duniway elementary?
We are non-profit (501-c3) that leases space from Portland Public Schools inside of Duniway. We have been providing Pre-K and before and after school care inside of Duniway since 1980.
Can my child attend Pre-K if we don’t live inside the Duniway school’s boundaries?
Yes, we welcome children from any neighborhood to attend our Pre-K program.
Can my child attend before or after school care if we do not attend Duniway for school?
No, you must be enrolled at Duniway to attend our before and after school program.
What makes me a DAS returning family?
If you have attended any DAS program including Pre-K, before or after care, or summer camp you are considered a DAS returning family.
If my Pre-K child attends Pre-K at the age of three will my child automatically be able to attend the following year?
Yes, all Pre-K children returning for a second year of Pre-k are allowed to register first for the following year.
What happens if I am late picking up my child from after care?
If you pick up your child after 6:00 pm you will be charge $1 per minute you are late.
Does DAS offer any scholarships?
Yes, all families are welcome to submit a request for scholarship form if you are facing any kind of hardship. Scholarship requests are reviewed and approved by our board.
What are the start and end times for each program?
Before care – 7:00am to 8:45pm
Pre-K - 8:45am to 2:45pm
After care – 3:00pm to 6:00pm
Summer Camp – 7:30am to 5:30pm
Is DAS open year-round?
We follow the PPS calendar and provide before and after care every day school is open. Pre-K starts on the same day as kindergarten. Summer camp dates vary from year to year but typically we offer 7 weeks of camp. We post summer camp dates in early spring.
